Music

Activities include…

Composing arranging and recording compositions. We had two songwriting workshops with professional songwriters recently.
All styles of music including classical, popular, ethnic, Irish.
Vocal training, soprano, alto, tenor and bass recorders, students own instruments, recording performances. From this year we will record a CD for every year group and an individual CD for each 6th year student.
Technology:We have a high tech imac for composing and recording. Students use the following software packages garageband, logic, sibelius, finale notepad. Technology is offered as an option for leaving cert students.


We are building the resources of the department with the help of our fundraising concerts and school funds. Our high spec technology and recording equipment was purchased from funds raised at our musical evening in 2007. Thanks to all who supported it.

Curricular
The department offering lots of extra curricular activities. We have a large school choir which meets every Wednesday lunchtime. Basic vocal training is a central part of our practise. We perform regularly. Recent performances include fundraising concert, Wesley College interschools competition, opening of school year mass, fashion show, carol service.

The school orchestra meets every Thursday from 4pm to 5pm. We recently recorder our Christmas Carol CD. Recent performances include the musical South Pacific and our Musical Evening.

Arts Week: We had two songwriting workshops with two visiting professional song writers from the National Concert Hall. The girls composed and recorded two songs 'This is Not a Rap' and 'Coming Home'.

There are lots of opportunities for extra curricular performances. Recent performances include, school masses, carol service, Wesley College interschools competitions, musical evening fundraising concert, South Pacific musical….
