Guidance and Counselling at St. Wolstan's Community School Celbridge


Guidance plays a pivotal role in the life of the school community and in the pastoral care of all of our students.

School Management, Year Heads, Tutors and Teachers work together not only to educate our students but support them in their journey through school as part of whole school guidance.

The Guidance Department has a special role however within this wider role to facilitate students make good career/life, educational and personal choices through their time at school. Our two Guidance Counsellors, Mr. Corcoran and Ms Hughes provide a comprehensive guidance service that provides advice, information, teaching and counselling to the students under three headings:

Educational Guidance

  • Advice on subject choices for 1st year, 2nd yr and 5th yr
  • Management of Subject Option Process
  • Monitoring student performance
  • One to one counselling on all educational matters
  • Assessment
  • Managing Transitions
  • Changing of subject levels
  • Provision of study skills
  • Information evenings for parents


Career Guidance

  • Careers Classes
  • Visits to College Open Days
  • Guest Speakers
  • Psychometric Testing
  • One to one Career Guidance
  • College Applications
  • Work Experience
  • Provision of up to date information
  • Computer Guidance
  • Work Experience


Personal Guidance
One to one counselling on all matters that may affect a student's life, happiness or learning, inside our outside school.
Referral to appropriate outside and statutory agencies
