Contingency measures in the event of inclement weather 2011/12
In the event of poor weather which may affect the running of a normal school day the following contingency plans may be put in place:
School closed/Late start
Management will liaise with local senior management and caretaker regarding the viability and safety of the school remaining open.
Management will consult with the Chairperson of the Board of Management to recommend that the school closes/ starts late on Health and Safety grounds
Management will notify staff, parents/guardians/, local radio station and bus companies via a text by 7.30a.m.that the school will be closed/ there will be a late start.
School closure
Directions as per circular 0034/2011 Appendix B will be followed.
Late Start
School will commence at 9.40a.m. or at another time which may be decided at the time depending on conditions. Classes will follow the normal school timetable.
School Grounds
Management will outsource the clearing of snow on the private road to a local company. The Caretaker and parents (if required) will clear snow on footpaths and clearways at entrance and exit to the school building.
Students will be asked to remain indoors during break times. Playing pitches will be out of bounds. No after school activities will take place e.g. Supervised study, Sports etc. Students are expected to take precautions that will prevent accidents. e.g no throwing snowballs, no running around etc.
Snow falling during the school day
In the event of heavy snow Management will liaise with the Chairperson of the Board of Management and recommend that the school closes early. Management will notify parents via text.
